Rail Design Manager

Burlington Ontario, Markham Ontario


Role Description
Our client is currently seeking a Rail Design Manager to join their rail team in their Burlington or Markham, ON office. Reporting to the Manager Rail & Transit, this position will be responsible for coordinating design efforts with regards to heavy, commuter and light rail transit projects.

* Oversee and lead the engineering design production of heavy rail, commuter and light rail transit projects
* Manage the design process through the preliminary and detailed design phases
* Manage the preparation of the construction contract documents
* Provide assistance during tender period and evaluation period
* Preparation of presentations and reports
* Meets client quality, schedule, and budget expectations
* Required to lead projects and coordinate the efforts of rail team, including associates and sub-contractors
* Interact with clients on a regular basis
* Provide technical direction to and mentors technical staff

* Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering
* 15 years of design experience for Heavy Rail and large complex transit projects
* Registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario (or similar)
* Must have experience in design, for projects within the industry which may include Metrolinx for Transit & CN or CP Rail for heavy rail projects
* Experience in AutoCAD/MicroStation and 3D CAD using Civil3D and/or InRoads design software is a must
* Experience in linear civil infrastructure, DTM surfaces, alignment, grading and drainage design
* Experience in the use and application of railway industry standards
* In-depth knowledge of design processes
* Experience in the preparation of design drawings and tender documents
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal are essential
* Good knowledge of planning and other aspects of project controls
* Ability to work in order to meet cost targets, quality targets and deadlines
* Ability to maintain good working relationships with the various parties involved in the process
* Time management skills and ability to adapt to change
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
