Amey to extend overhead line upkeep deal with Northern Powergrid

Northern Powergrid is receiving help from Amey to help safeguard power to homes across the North East, Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire area thanks to a £40m framework that was recently secured. The four-year framework will consist of condition surveys and controlling overgrown vegetation and trees by Amey to ensure that electricity supplies are not disrupted.

The company already has a strong business relationship with Northern Powergrid for providing vegetation management services in the North East for the past five years. The new four-year framework will have Amey continue to deliver these services in the North East in addition to extending its presence into Yorkshire and northern Lincolnshire. Amey also provides services like overhead line refurbishment and electrical and civil engineering activities for Northern Powergrid.

Steve MacDonald, Head of Programme Delivery at Northern Powergrid, said: “Clearance of vegetation from our 800 miles of overhead power network helps reduce the potential for trees making contact with our power lines during severe weather or snapped branches hitting our network causing damage and power cuts for our customers.”

Andy Milner, chief executive at Amey, said: “The framework further strengthens our position as a trusted partner in the power sector, and we look forward to continuing our longstanding partnership with Northern Powergrid.”  Full story
