Financially savvy and great with numbers, an Estimator is responsible for creating estimates for clients on the cost of providing products and services. Working within the rail, construction and civil engineering industries, some of the main duties of this job include estimating how much a project will cost, including defining the materials, time, labour and equipment required to complete the work to the required standard, and creating a contract budget in line with this. They will seek and analyse quotes from various industry contractors and can provide prices for one-off, short or long-term projects, depending on business requirements.
Senior Estimators typically need site experience, commercial acumen and quantity surveying skills. You also need brilliant time management and organisation skills in order to meet the tight deadlines of a contract.
